For software engineers

English coaching for software engineers who already work in English.

You read the docs, write the code, and join the calls in English. Phatic is for the moments that still take more effort than they should: explaining a decision out loud, answering on the spot, or disagreeing without losing the point.

Where it shows up.

We work on the situations you actually face at work. Bring a design discussion, a review you need to push back on, a meeting you have tomorrow, or something you have been reading.

01

Explaining a technical decision.

Why this approach, what it costs, and what you ruled out. Clear enough that people can follow without the diagram.

02

Stand-ups and planning.

Short updates that say what changed, what is blocked, and what you need from whom.

03

Pushing back cleanly.

Disagreeing with a design, an estimate, or a deadline. Directly, with reasons, and without friction.

04

Talking to people outside engineering.

The same idea, adapted for product, sales, or leadership, who do not share your context.

05

Thinking aloud.

Debugging with someone, answering a question you did not expect, or working through a problem in real time.

06

Interviewing as yourself.

Talking through your experience and your reasoning in your own words, not a rehearsed script.

Not a vocabulary course

You already know the technical words.

You use them every day. The work is in what happens when you speak: structure, directness, specificity, audience, and tone, alongside grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and intonation when they matter.

Corrections, alternatives, and the reasons behind them go into your shared doc while we talk, so the next session builds on this one.

One update. Less work for the listener.

Broad

“There are some issues with the current approach.”

Clear

“The current approach doubles our database writes. I'd batch them. It adds a day of work, but it fixes the load problem.”

“We role-played several types of difficult calls, so the real conversations were never a first attempt.”

“The topics are engaging and challenging. To discuss them you really need to think, reason, and express yourself clearly.”

A few questions.

Is this useful if my English is already good?

Yes. Most of my clients already work in English. We work on the details: finding the right words, making a point clearly, and sounding natural under pressure. Bring the questions you never quite get a chance to ask at work.

What happens after I submit the form?

I'll review your answers and get in touch to arrange your 30-minute session.

Can my company pay for the coaching?

Yes. Company invoicing or receipts for reimbursement are available.
